DOOL’s Raven Bowens And Robert Scott Wilson Defend “Awkward” Threesome

[ad_1]

© XJJohnson/jpistudios.com

Back in October, Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) broke fresh ground when they aired the first threesome in soap opera history. Now, two of the three performers – Raven Bowens (Chanel) and Robert Scott Wilson (Alex) – are looking back on the contentious love scene.

The threesome lit up social media and even had fans who don’t subscribe to Peacock chiming in with their opinions. However, Bowens revealed to Soaps.com that DOOL anticipated more attention – because the footage was shot before they knew they were leaving NBC.

“It’s so funny because you know how NBC is a channel that just plays, like in the airport, in a nail salon?” Bowens explained. “Imagine that’s what’s just happening [in the background]!”

Love DOOL? Share all of your DOOL opinions and join the discussion on our DOOL Facebook Page.

For herself and co-star Wilson, it was important to remember that threesomes are somewhat taboo outside of Los Angeles, which Bowens acknowledges as “such a progressive place where it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, we’ve done that’”.

In fact, one could make the argument that most DOOL viewers live in more socially conservative areas, “where it’s not as common to be, you know, sexually fluid,” as Bowens described it. “Or people are, but they’re a little more quiet about it. They’re not as open with their sexuality and what they’re doing.”

Recently, DOOL enlisted star Deidre Hall to remind viewers that the show would remain “family oriented”. Wilson is also hyper-aware that some viewers might have been put off by the soap opera first.

“There’s always going to be people who are offended,” Wilson stated, before admitting that the threesome idea was developed with utmost caution.

“I think they really shot it beautifully. Everything was thought of. We had an intimacy coordinator; we had a female director who has great taste in vision,” the actor detailed. “They talked to us privately. [Co-executive producer] Albert Alarr brought us up and talked about it weeks before.”

And while the scene may have oozed with sensuality, Wilson admitted that it was choreographed to the extreme. “It’s still awkward,” he said. “I’ve been doing this for years and intimacy scenes are always a little awkward, but it’s always handled with class and taste.”

Bowens, meanwhile, is pleased that she was able to make history in the soap genre. “It was exciting to know we were pioneering things,” she said. “I remember being a kid and thinking, ‘Oh, everything’s already been done. Is there anything that I’m ever going to be able to do in life that’s never been done?’”

“So, it’s kind of cool, because yes, it’s been done in other spaces, but in this space it’s unique,” she added.

And now that DOOL is exclusively on Peacock – and therefore not strictly a daytime drama – Wilson hopes to give viewers more taboo in the future.

“It’s romance any time, so now we should be able to do threesomes anytime!” he exclaimed.

Yankees and Dodgers will meet in World Series for 12th time

[ad_1]

NEW YORK — Broadway vs. Hollywood. Subway vs. Freeway. Judge vs. Ohtani.

New York neighbours who became cross-country rivals, the Yankees and Dodgers renew their starry struggle in the World Series for the first time in 43 years.

“When you’re playing for the Dodgers and playing for the Yankees, it better feel different,” LA manager Dave Roberts said at Yankee Stadium last June. “If not, you better do something different for a profession.”

Two of baseball’s most successful teams face each other starting Friday at Dodger Stadium, the Yankees coming off their 41st American League pennant and the Dodgers their 25th National League championship. New York is seeking its 28th World Series title but first since 2009, the Dodgers their eighth and second in a five-year span.

Yankees pinstripes vs. Dodgers Pantone 294. The Bronx Bombers vs. the Dem Bums’ descendants. The granite-and-limestone of new Yankee Stadium on chilly autumn nights vs. Dodger Stadium in sunny Chavez Ravine, with the San Gabriel Mountains beyond the pavilions.

New York is 8-3 against the Dodgers in the most frequent World Series matchup, including 6-1 against Brooklyn and 2-2 since the rivalry became Big Apple against Tinseltown.

Mickey Owen, Al Gionfriddo, Cookie Lavagetto, Sandy Amoros, Johnny Podres, Don Larsen, Sandy Koufax and Reggie Jackson created indelible images in the matchup, which started in 1941 with one of the wackiest World Series turns.

Trailing 2-1 in the Series, Brooklyn led 4-3 with two outs in the ninth inning at Ebbets Field when Tommy Henrich swung and missed at strike three from Hugh Casey. The ball bounced away from Owen and rolled toward the Dodgers dugout as Henrich reached on the dropped third strike. Joe DiMaggio singled, Charlie Keller hit a two-run double and Joe Gordon added a two-run double later in the inning as the Yankees won 7-4 and went on to win the title in five games.

Lavagetto’s two-out, pinch walk-off double in the ninth ended Bill Bevens’ no-hit bid in 1947’s Game 4 and two games later Gionfriddo robbed DiMaggio of a tying three-run homer.

New York beat the Dodgers again in 1949 and 1952 and 1953, frustrating the fans in Flatbush, but Brooklyn finally won the title in 1955 when Johnny Podres pitched a Game 7 shutout at Yankee Stadium and Gil Hodges drove in both runs. Sandy Amoros preserved the lead when he made a running catch of Yogi Berra’s drive in the left-field corner with two on and relayed to shortstop Pee Wee Reese, who threw to Hodges at first and doubled up Gil McDougald. Those players were celebrated in Roger Kahn’s 1972 book “The Boys of Summer.”

Don Larsen pitched the World Series’ only perfect game in 1956’s fifth game in the Bronx, Berra jumping into his arms after the final out, and the Yankees won Game 7 behind Johnny Kucks’ three-hit shutout in what turned out to be the last World Series game at Ebbets Field.

Walter O’Malley moved the Dodgers to California after the 1957 season, and Koufax had an interlocking “LA” on his cap instead of a “B when he struck out a then-Series record 15 in the 1963 opener at Yankee Stadium. The rivalry didn’t resume until 1977 with the first of three matchups in a five-year span.

Jackson’s three home runs led the Yankees to a clinching win in 1977’s Game 6. The Yankees won another six-game Series the following year, highlighted by third baseman Graig Nettles’ diving stops on Reggie Smith, Steve Garvey and Davey Lopes.

Los Angeles lost the first two games in the Bronx in 1981, and then won four in a row — capped by a 9-2 victory that had Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda dancing. The defeat prompted Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, his right hand bandaged after an alleged fight with Dodgers fans in a hotel elevator, to issue a written apology “to the people of New York and to the fans of the New York Yankees everywhere.”

Both teams feel the history created by their predecessors.

“You put that jersey on and those pinstripes, it just feels different,” Yankees slugger Juan Soto said.

Los Angeles took two of three when they met in a much-hyped series in June.

Roberts is reminded of the history when he approaches Dodger Stadium.

“I can’t believe I’m driving up Vin Scully Way, when I go to work,” he said. “It’s overwhelming, but I try not to let my head go there too often; I just try to do my job.”

Keller Fire evacuation orders in Oakland to be fully lifted by Sunday night

[ad_1]

(KRON) — Evacuation orders for the Keller Fire that broke out Friday will be fully lifted by Sunday night, the Oakland Fire Department (OFD) announced on X. All residents who were evacuated can return to their respective homes by 8 p.m.

OFD says the response to the fire that burned more than 15 acres was “successful.” About a total of 200 firefighters from multiple fire departments responded to the blaze.

“All residents will be allowed restored access to the area and to their homes,” the fire department wrote on X.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, the fire in the Caballo Hills area of East Oakland was 70% contained, according to OFD. Fifty firefighters from OFD and Cal Fire were at the scene to fully extinguish hot spots and clear hazardous vegetation.

Two homes were damaged in the Keller Fire, and about a dozen were threatened at the fire’s peak. No injuries were reported.

As of now, there are no power outages reported in Oakland, according to PG&E’s outage map. The shelter operated by the City of Oakland, Ira Jinkins Community Center, will close at 8 p.m.

Fire crews will remain at the scene overnight and into Monday. Officials said the smell of smoke in the area will persist for the next several days, but that does not indicate an active fire.

Fans Slam Ariana Grande for Snubbing Elvira’s Cassandra Peterson

[ad_1]

Ariana Grande might have some explaining to do after her recent encounter with Cassandra Peterson, who’s best known for her character Elvira. Fans slammed the “thank u, next” singer for dismissing the horror icon.

Cassandra, 73, described her “worst celebrity encounter” while speaking to a crowd in a video shared on TikTok, and it was none other than Glinda the Good Witch herself.

“I’ll tell you briefly,” Cassandra said after another presenter referenced Ariana’s infamous donut encounter in 2015. “She came and she brought 20 guests, so she wanted 20, 21 tickets. We’re like, ‘OK,’ and we give her the tickets. She comes backstage and she asks if I could take pictures with all of her friends and relatives [that] she brought.”

The Elvira: Mistress of the Dark star continued, “I take a picture with every single one of them. I sign autographs for every single one of them. Then I say to her, ‘Can we take a photo together?’ She goes, ‘Nah, I don’t really do that.’”

To make matters worse, the Scream Queens alum allegedly didn’t even bother to stay for Cassandra’s performance and ditched the show while her family and friends stayed. People in the audience booed Ariana, 31, as another presenter on the panel quipped, “She’s playing the wrong witch.”

Cassandra’s fans flooded the comments section of the TikTok video and slammed Ariana for her alleged bad behavior.

“Is anyone honestly surprised that Ariana’s like that? After decades of hearing similar stories from folks?” wrote one critic.

Another person added, “ur actually joking… her expecting that much then not even taking a single photo? that’s insane.”

The “Bang Bang” artist is no stranger to controversy, though. Ariana came under fire in 2023 for her relationship with her Wicked costar, Ethan Slater. On July 17, 2023, news broke that Ariana and her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, had separated after two years of marriage. Three days later, there were whispers that she and Ethan, 32, were dating despite him being married to Lilly Jay at the time.

Rumors swirled that Ariana and Ethan had both cheated on their former spouses, but the “7 Rings” singer eventually addressed the situation in February.

“We know this about the tabloids and about the media. We selectively remember that this is what the tabloids do to people, especially women, based on whether or not we like the person,” Ariana said during the February 26 episode of the Zach Sang Show. “We selectively remember that. We selectively leave space for humanness, for nuance.”

Ariana and The Spongebob Musical star weathered the negativity together and earlier this month, she spoke out about the rumors that Ethan abandoned his wife and child to be with her.

“So many people believe the worst version of it,” Ariana told Vanity Fair. “There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being …. No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about.”

However, the Sam & Cat alum is exhausted by constantly having to defend herself.

“Ariana is happy in her relationship and tired of defending how they got together,” an insider exclusively told Life & Style.

MANILA, Philippines — Angel Canino and Shevana Laput formed a potent one-two punch as La Salle ended National University’s 28-game unbeaten run with a thrilling 32-30, 14-25, 25-22, 25-21 victory in the second round of the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

In the clash of SSL champions, Canino and Laput rose to the occasion and spearheaded the Lady Spikers’ fourth-set surge that saw them take a commanding 21-14 spread.

However, the Lady Bulldogs, led by MVPs Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, never wavered and cut it down to just two, 22-20, before Laput stopped the bleeding and brought the Lady Spikers to match point, 24-21, with two crucial kills.

Rookie Shane Reterta delivered the game-winning ace, ending NU’s perfect run that began after sweeping the inaugural SSL in 2022 until its 4-0 finish in Pool A.

Canino unleashed 20 points built on 18 kills and a pair of aces, while Laput had 18 points off 15 attacks, two blocks, and an ace for La Salle, which skipped last year’s Pre-season championship and this season’s National Invitationals both ruled by NU.

Rookie setter Mikole Reyes, the sister of former La Salle star and PLDT middle blocker Mika, was a revelation for the Lady Spikers, pacing them with 16 excellent sets on top of two points to fill in the big shoes left by main setter Julyana Tolentino, who sat out in the match.

“Lagi kaming nireremind na kapit lang, tibay ng puso, and balik lagi sa sistema,” said Reyes. “Sobrang saya and happy for this opportunity. Gusto ko rin i-grab yung opportunity na ito and gusto ko talagang magcontribute sa team.”

Amie Provido had nine points, while Shane Reterta added seven points in the first La Salle-NU clash in the SSL since 2022.

La Salle, which ruled the 2023 National Invitationals, survived a grueling first set, saving NU’s six set-point advantages before Canino and Belen trade errors for a 30-all deadlock. Canino brought the Lady Spikers at set point with a back row hit followed by Solomon’s attack error to draw the first blood.

The Lady Spikers got dominated in the second set but got their act together in the third as Lilay brought them at set point, 24-22, before Cham Maaya committed a crucial error, handing the 2-1 match advantage to La Salle.

NU started the second round off the wrong foot after a 4-0 finish in the first round, while La Salle stayed unbeaten, boosting its chance for a twice-to-beat quarterfinal advantage in Pool E.

Solomon carried the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, while Belen and Vange Alinsug had 13 points each, missing the services of Arah Panique.

New NU coach Sherwin Meneses lost his first NU-La Salle game to the Lady Spikers deputy Noel Orcullo, who is filling in the big shoes of Ramil De Jesus this preseason.

READ: Poyos leads UST fightback vs UE for Shakey’s Super League Pool B sweep

Meanwhile, The University of Santo Tomas and University of the East opened their second-round campaigns with separate straight-set wins.

UST dominated Ateneo, 25-11, 25-20, 25-17, to kick off its Pool F campaign on a high note as setter Cassie Carballo paced the team’s dominant win, which only lasted for 85 minutes.

“Sobrang laking factor for us ‘yung relationship namin outside the court. Nagsisimula ‘yun sa relationship namin outside the court and nadadala namin ‘yun sa loob. Kanina, naglaro lang kami ng buo,” said Carballo, who had 13 excellent sets and three points after 11 other Tigresses contributed points.

Angge Poyos poured in 17 points, all coming from attacks including the back-to-back hits to finish the game. Jonna Perdido contributed nine points. Reg Jurado chipped in eight points, while Marga Altea nailed three of her seven points from kill blocks.

UST tries to boost its chances for a quarterfinals twice-to-beat incentive against Far Eastern University on Friday, while Ateneo seeks to bounce back against the University of the Philippines.

AC Miner led the Blue Eagles with eight points, Yvana Sulit delivered six points, while Lyann De Guzman and Sobe Buena had five each.

UE turned to the dynamic duo of Casiey Dongallo and Jelai Gajero to beat College of Saint Benilde, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, in Pool E.

Dongallo and Gajero kept the last NCAA team in the SSL at bay as they put on the finishing touches in their tight third-set duel.

Dongallo led the Lady Warriors with a game-high 16 points off 15 attacks and one kill block. Gajero scored seven points, while Kai Cepada also had the same production as the former.

“Malapit na matapos ‘yung set and hindi ‘yun ‘yung time na mag-relax pa kami. Kung patapos na we have to put all our effort na kasi lahat naman gusto nang manalo,” said Dongallo.

Tszyu defeats Tony Harrison

Tim Tszyu celebrates victory in his WBO super-welterweight world title fight against Tony Harrison as the referee signals for the stoppage in the ninth round of their clash in Sydney on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

The undefeated Aussie star’s dominant victory was the 22nd of his professional career, with 16 of them by knockout.

It set up a mandatory challenge with unified world champion Jermell Charlo, who was initially scheduled to fight Tszyu in January before an injury sidelined the superstar and Harrison, the only fighter to inflict defeat on Charlo, stepped in.

Yet, even after beating Charlo’s only conqueror convincingly, doubters remain.

Charlo, who was ringside as a guest commentator, claimed “he doesn’t really show a lot of athleticism”, adding “I think he’s perfect for my style”.

Douglass Fischer, editor of respected boxing publication The Ring Magazine said Tszyu needed a couple more fights against challengers of Harrison’s calibre before he would be “truly ready for a beast like Charlo”.

Former world champion Ishé Oluwa Kamau Ali Smith said a counterpuncher would “have a field day” against him, with Tszyu’s aggressive style making him vulnerable to falling into “traps” set by wily customers like Charlo.

Everything is warmups for Yankees until they get to World Series

[ad_1]

NEW YORK — For the New York Yankees, the real opening day is World Series Game 1.

A little bubbly for a playoff berth, the AL East, the Division Series and their 41st pennant were just warmups.

World Series rings are the only numbers that count when you are measured not among the living but against the ghosts: Yogi, Joltin’ Joe, the Iron Horse, the Babe and the Mick.

“That’s why we’re here. That’s why I get up every single day. That’s why I put in the work not only at the field but in the off-season, is to just bring a championship home back to the city and back to this team,” Yankees captain Aaron Judge said when spring training started in February.

“It’s been quite a long time since we’ve got to that finish line,” he added, “but I think a lot of the guys and pieces that we’ve added into this room, especially a couple of changes we made in approaches, guys we brought in, it’s all going to push us towards the right direction, which is ultimately being the last team standing.”

The Yankees are in the World Series for the first time since winning title No. 27 in 2009, starting Friday at the Los Angeles Dodgers or in the Bronx against the New York Mets.

A core in its 30s covets a championship as validation as much as accomplishment. Giancarlo Stanton is in his 15th major league season, Gerrit Cole his 12th and Judge his ninth.

Stanton has been restrained in his assessment.

Stanton’s edge was visible during Saturday night’s celebration when Gleyber Torres handed him the AL championship trophy, saying “Take the baby. Take the baby.” Stanton cradled the prize and rocked it back and forth — an apparent reference to Josh Naylor’s home run celebration when he connected against Cole in the 2022 ALDS.

Baseball’s winningest tradition is in the players’ faces from the day they arrive at Yankee Stadium. Oversized photos of pinstriped greats line the tunnel leading to the clubhouse. The walls of the locker room corridor are filled with paintings of recent luminaries.

Players don’t have to be reminded that Yogi Berra won 10 titles, Joe DiMaggio nine, Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle seven each (though only four of Ruth’s were with the Yankees), and Lou Gehrig six. Hall of Famers Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, both five-time champions, mingled with the current players in August when the 2009 champions were honoured on Old-Timers’ Day.

“What makes the Yankees the Yankees is winning and winning a World Series” said Anthony Volpe, a 23-year-old shortstop who is in his second big league season.

The Yankees missed the playoffs last year for the first time since 2016, skidding to an 82-80 record and narrowly avoiding their first losing season since 1992.

Expectations soared after they obtained Juan Soto from San Diego in December, and he set an attitude when he arrived at spring training wearing a T-shirt that proclaimed: “The Generational Juan Soto.” The free-agent-to-be turned to the dugout and pounded his chest after the Yankees’ signature shot of the post-season thus far, his 10th-inning, three-run homer that won their 41st pennant.

A 50-22 start raised confidence but a 10-23 slide from mid-June through late July sparked skepticism. The acquisition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. from Miami ahead of the trade deadline injected some energy, and New York finished an AL-best 94-68, clinching a playoff berth in Game No. 152 and the AL East in No. 159.

Stanton (.294, five homers, 11 RBIs in the post-season), Soto (.333, three, eight), Judge (two homers, six RBIs despite a .161 average) have provided key hits and Torres has reached leading off in eight of nine post-season games.

Bullpen contributors include Tim Hill (signed in June after he was released by the woeful Chicago White Sox), Jake Cousins (purchased from the White Sox in late March), Tim Mayza (signed in July after he was released by Toronto) and Mark Leiter Jr. (a trade-deadline arrival added to the active roster Friday after Ian Hamilton got hurt).

Aaron Boone reminded players in February to be ready no matter their depth chart status.

“I talked to those guys first day of camp,” the manager recalled Saturday. ”’You’re sitting in here right now, you think, ah, I probably won’t be with the big club this year or whatever.’ I’m like, ‘You might find yourself in the batter’s box or on the mound in the biggest moment of the year, so try and prepare that.’

“And then there’s always the X factors of the trade deadline that happens, but even the other moves like getting Tim Hill and Jake Cousins that have become really significant parts of our bullpen that were in a way cast-offs from other organizations. So you never know how it’s all going to shape up.”

McDonalds Invites Kamala Harris And Tim Walz To Hold A Campaign Event

0

[ad_1]

McDonalds responded to Trump holding a campaign stunt at one of their franchisee’s restaurants, by inviting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to do the same.

Here is the statement from McDonalds:

The McDonalds statement clearly states that McDonalds isn’t endorsing Trump . The restaurant chain is not partisan, and that Kamala Harris is more than welcome to hold an event at a McDonalds.

With so few days left in the campaign, it is uncertain whether Harris would take the company up on their offer. It is possible that she could do a quick swing state stop at a McDonalds. Preferably, she would visit a restaurant that was open and interact with real people, and not fake the whole thing like Donald Trump did.
If Trump thought that he could create the impression that he has been endorsed by McDonalds, the company shot that down.

The whole stunt may end up backfiring on Trump if Harris does go to a McDonalds and expose his attempt to fool voters in Pennsylvania.

Um, excuse me, can someone explain WHY Donald Trump is swooning over Arnold Palmer’s ‘unbelievable’ genitals? – We Got This Covered

[ad_1]

It’s been a wild and wacky week in Trumpland, whose campaign team was probably hoping to discuss substantial policy issues.

Instead, his Republican cronies were busy arguing over the nuances of the McDonald’s menu. As per their claims, Donald Trump “knows the McDonald’s menu better than Kamala Harris ever did.” Yes, folks, it has come to this. The real measure of presidential fitness is obviously one’s mastery of the McNugget.

As Election Day looms just two weeks away, one might expect Trump to sharpen his arguments into a compelling closing pitch to the American people. However, on Oct. 19, he initiated what was supposed to be a serious rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, by diving into a 12-minute monologue about Palmer’s… manhood. Yes, that Arnold Palmer — the legendary golfer known for his sportsmanship and philanthropy, not for, well, the details Trump found most noteworthy.

Now, it’s no secret that Trump has a bit of a wandering eye when it comes to his obsessions. Sharks, Hannibal Lecter, rating women in politics like some sort of deranged beauty pageant judge,  making kissy faces at Elon Musk on X, trying to lay some unwanted smooches on horrified little girls…the man contains multitudes, and most of those multitudes should probably be on some kind of watchlist. But this sudden swerve into the world of Palmer peen worship is a new one.

“This man was strong and tough,” Trump bellowed. And when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there, they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.’”

Sure, Palmer was a hometown hero in Latrobe, a golfing god among men who learned to swing a club from his polio-stricken pops and went on to become the undisputed “King” of the links. Politicians making the pilgrimage to pay their respects to Palmer in his birthplace is not uncommon. But Trump spending a full 12 minutes rhapsodizing about Palmer’s penis and mournfully lamenting that the night would be so much more bigly fun if only the late-Palmer could be there to join him on stage? That’s…well, that’s a choice, I guess.

One can only imagine the late golf icon’s reaction to this creepy fanboying – he’d probably be desperate to pull a Houdini and vanish in a puff of smoke (a trick Trump himself is well-versed in). In fact, Palmer’s daughter told The Sporting News in 2018 that her father, a conservative, was so put off by Trump’s lack of civility that he would make disgusted noises whenever Trump appeared on TV.

And that was before the whole “fomenting an insurrection” unpleasantness —one shudders to think how Palmer would react to the sight of the now-convicted felon as he grows more repulsive with each passing day.

During his campaigning, Trump eventually got around to trotting out his greatest hits – tax cuts for the rich and of course, ranting about THE BOARDER!!!! (Err…wait…BORDER) – but did he offer any compelling new reasons for voters to give him another crack at the Oval Office? Not so much. The Democratic camp, along with everyone else who still has a synapse left to fire, has pointed to this latest Looney-Tunes “man-meat mania” as yet more evidence of the rancid yam’s accelerating cognitive decline.

They might just be onto something — after all, this is a guy who danced like a demented marionette for a full 40 minutes without stopping and seems to think his little failed coup klatch was scheduled for Election Day. But maybe the truth is far simpler – maybe Trump has just developed a taste for the dong side. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…but good luck selling that rebrand to the hordes of knuckle-dragging, homophobe troglodytes who make up his base. We have seen photographic evidence of Trump merrily motorboating a done-up-in-drag Rudy Giuliani on TV, so who knows what to believe anymore?

Showing so much cohesion, the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses needed just 85 minutes to dust off Ateneo and get their Shakey’s Super League Collegiate preseason championship off on a smashing note on Sunday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

With Cassie Carballo finding her spikers at the right spots, the Tigresses carved out a 25-11, 25-20, 25-17 conquest of the Blue Eagles in Pool F as Santo Tomas, second placer to National U in the last UAAP, served notice of its capability.

And much of that stems from a team bond that only time can forge.

“Our relationship outside the court is such a big factor,” Carballo said in Filipino after she finished with 13 excellent sets and three points. “We get to take that relationship to the court. That’s why we’re such a solid team.”

Dongallo takes charge

The prolific Angge Poyos led the Tigresses with 17 points as Santo Tomas only encountered some rough sailing early in the second set.

Meanwhile, University of the East (UE) repelled College of Saint Benilde’s late third set fightback to eke out a 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 victory in Pool E.

Alas Pilipinas mainstay Casiey Dongallo and Jelai Gajero showed the way for the Lady Warriors at crunch time, pounding in crucial kills to silence the only NCAA team in the playoffs.

UE shattered a 19-19 deadlock in the third set with three straight points to create a separation before Chenae Basarte and Clydel Catarig led the Lady Blazers’ 3-1 counterattack to close in, 23-22, before Dongallo pushed the Lady Warriors to match point.
