(KRON) — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety (RPDPS) reported that a 3-alarm fire Saturday displaced approximately 30 residents and caused $2 million in damage.
The RPDPS said at 12:16 p.m. it received multiple reports of a heavy fire in the upstairs unit at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Kirsten Court in Rohnert Park.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, they saw “significant flames coming from the second-floor apartment.” The blaze destroyed one unit and rapidly spread to nearby apartments due to lack of firewalls in the building, said officials. Firefighters were able to contain the flames within an hour, confirmed authorities.
While the cause of the fire has not been determined, investigators believe the fire started in the living room of one apartment.
Authorities said the building was “declared uninhabitable” and the Red Cross assisted with 30 displaced residents. One firefighter was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, but their condition status has not been disclosed.
The 3-alarm blaze is estimated to have cost $2 million in damage, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
